JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP FUND

As a way of providing New York Press Club members with the facilities and amenities of a full-service social club, we are proposing a tier of membership that will allow our members the use of the historic Players Club as if they were members of that organization

The Players, located in a Greek Revival townhouse facing Gramercy Park, was purchased in 1888 by Edwin Booth, America's pre-eminent Shakespearean actor, and organized with 15 other incorporators, including Mark Twain and General William Tecumseh Sherman, as The Players. Modeled after London's famed Garrick Club, The Players was the first American "gentleman's club" of its kind.

Players

The Players offers a full range of amenities in a genteel and convivial setting including a grill room and bar, dining room, library, reading room and comfortable lounges. The Players also offers a number of events throughout the year that Press Club members may attend from readings and lectures to musical evenings and theatrical presentations.

Reciprocal privileges are also part of this optional membership perk at clubs such the Explorers, Friars, Salamagundi, India House and the Downtown Association in New York City and about 30 clubs in all around the U.S. and abroad.

More information about the Players can be found on their website. New York Press Club members with an interest in this optional membership tier are invited to contact the Press Club for particulars.
